Christian Music News: RB_7up opens up about his violent past in GOD ON MY SIDE (2024)

Up-and-coming UK Gospel artist RB_7up has just dropped ‘GOD ON MY SIDE’ where he opens up about his life before giving coming to Christ. With deep and meaningful lyrics, the track takes you on a journey not just about his previous life but also an understanding of the mind behind young people involved in gangs.

In an age where youth violence appears to be consistently on the rise, this single brings lyrics that young gang members can no doubt engage with; telling his listeners about his idol, the founder of the Crips Stanley Tookie Williams, as well as the types of days he used to enjoy… except those moments when it got violent! He then takes his listeners to his present mentality, stating:

“I feel remorse for every man that I’ve stabbed and I repent for every man that I grabbed.”

One thing he makes very clear, however, is that as much as it may look like he was living the life during his time in gangs, deep down RB_7up hoped for death. Fast forward to today and it becomes apparent this is not just a song of reminiscence but also a song of hope.

“I got God on my side so I’ll be good for the ride.”

Accompanied by a soulful instrumental with a traditional hip-hop beat and the chorus sung by Jus Jaycee, ‘GOD ON MY SIDE’ is a sincere journey of hope found in repentance. The artist’s desire is that this song will resonate with those still involved in gangs that no matter how deep you may be in, it is possible to make a change.
