Rock Music News: Little Misty Roar at Cabaret Lion DOr (2024)

The Cabaret Lion D’Or roared with a performance from Little Misty, showcasing songs off the new album Nowhere Land, as well as older songs and some covers.

Seven talented multi-instrumentalists led by Kathryn Samman & Francois Jalbert had the audience in rapt attention during their 1.5 hour set on May 27, 2023.

The set’s atmosphere balanced between the gentle touch of a loved one to the intensity of a powerful ocean wave. Like a well oiled machine, the musicians weaved in and out of their parts effortlessly, and let each other shine.

The joy and playfulness that emanated from their faces and instruments as they improvised, on occasion, added depth to the performance.

At times, I felt like I was listening to Tom Waits’ band, minus our skid row legend. Other times, we were transported into a Cirque du Soleil imagery filled landscape, or by the foot of the Appalachian Mountains for some Bluegrass infused melodies.

The encore started with an intimate performance of the classic Tennessee Waltz, captured by a vintage microphone.

As the band left the stage to their well earned second standing ovation, we were left gently floating down from cloud 9.

Afterwards, the band mingled in the Cabaret Lion D’Or, a venue that felt like we time travelled quite a few decades back.

The dream ended as we stepped back into Orange Coned Land, the reality of our Montreal streets.
