Who is Fourth Daughter, the electro pop newcomer who is fast grabbing the attention of tastemakers?
Birthname Emily Atkinson, she is a Scottish singer and producer whose synth-heavy sound was inspired by her parents’ record collection as well as music by likes of Rufus Du Sol and Jamie XX, among others.
We are highlighting Fourth Daughter’s newest song, “Take The Fall”. This dance-pop tune is hypnotic and introspective. It was written about the anxiety that comes with developing the confidence to truly be yourself.
“The mental torture of trying to take up your own space in places where it sometimes doesn’t feel so easy to do so out of being too shy/not wanting to make a mistake. It’s like an internal dialogue of wanting to be yourself but being too afraid of what other people might think, and the yo-yo self encouragement/self doubt debates that come with that. I was having a pretty bad day the day I wrote it so I think it was all pretty anecdotal of what I was feeling at the time.”
Fourth DaughterTaken from the artist’s upcoming debut EP titled HYPERREAL, “Take The fall” was paired with a silhouetted visual which can be seen above. HYPERREAL was produced entirely by London’s Paul Whalley and will drop sometimes in July.
