Priests feed a heart still beating
To the God of Sun and War
Body thrown down the temple steps
A sea of cannibals roar
The gods are starving
But they cannot die
The human engine waits, avatars it creates
Unsleeping and untrue
Sacred or obscene when you become machines
But the gods must have their due
The gods are starving
But they cannot die
They just go on not living
Starving for sacrifice
Where flesh is a prison, pleasure is forbidden
May you get what you deserve
Apotheosis, a magnum opus
We will have the last word
Homo Deus Homo Deus, rock me Homo Deus
The self-made gods of Earth
Sacrifice mythology for godlike technology
What is immortality worth?
Feed us your soul
The Gods are starving
For rock 'n' roll
The human engine waits, avatars it creates
Unsleeping and untrue
Sacred or obscene, you worship the machines
But the gods must have their due
Feed us your soul
Humans are the worst, everything's reversed
Your tools are using you
Deified, but you're all gonna die
And I ain't gonna cry when you do
FAQ & Knowledge Song “Starving Gods”
ℚ. What have the artists said about the song?
Mike Bishop:
We came up with this song that has kind of a soca feel. It’s kind of a booty-shaker. I just wanted something where people can dance. And the intro piece before this is an Aztec death whistle, which makes this terrifying sound. I know they used one in the climax of Game of Thrones—the scene where the throne is destroyed. I wanted to use one in a song and really build a whole piece around it, so the idea is that there’s a human sacrifice going on and then people are just dancing.
