From beneath the shadows of hibernation, the dormant beast of Under The Bridge awakens. If you’ve ever had the serendipitous opportunity of stumbling upon an oft-hush-hush UTB gig, you’ll know that these pop-up events are more than your average rave. Established in 2014, the UTB wave has surfaced seasonally across the scene in various habitats, from Burning Man-inspired jamborees in a former ship repair factory to glow-in-the-dark poolside parties in the secretive perch of Owl Bar. After a quiet lull, Under The Bridge is now ready to rumble with a comeback ‘micro festival’ in the heart of the city.

Aptly called Under The Bridge: The Beast Awakens, this revived fiesta happens on 24 June at a yet-to-be-disclosed rooftop location. With three stages of music, the micro festival has unveiled a roster of over 20 Singapore-based DJs from all over the world, unleashing a cosmopolitan mish-mash of genres spanning reggae, UK garage, psybient, West Coast bass, jungle, organic house and beyond. It features deck-savvy ambassadors from several homegrown collectives like Andre Marc and Halis (Ciel Social), Muttiah Ashnim (Into The Deep), Gonzo (Kilowatt Soundsystem), Senja (Revision Music), Taaka (YES YOU), Shellsuit (Pushin’On); along with other prominent names such as James Selva, DJ Reiki, AnnaMatronic and Huntersson. It’s a beastly lineup indeed, delivering a motley of beats suited for all fussy tastes.

Inspired by the UK underground party scene, UTB parties have always pushed the idea of festival-style events, expanding their concepts with disciplines beyond the scope of music. Likewise, Under The Bridge: The Beast Awakens promises a cosmic marketplace, live art and installations, and a Flow jam with Starlight Alchemy showcasing LED poi, staffs, and other luminescent props. Colours run rampant at these events, and you’re welcome to get your war paint on with stations that will adorn you with face paint, bio glitter and body marbling. And the best part about this event? It’s a charity fundraiser with proceeds going to Make-a-Wish Singapore.
