Quote from the song “4Runner” by Rostam
First time they took me down
I went down swinging
Second time, I didn't put up a fight
I take the keys down from the hook
I pick you up from work
We stick to the straight roads up the West Coast
And I feel a part of me slide
When the trucks drive by
I feel 'em sway us side to side
You're underneath a blanket on the backseat
I'm going station to station on the dial
Don't wanna be pretty like a girl
I think I'm pretty much your boy
You wear a baseball cap all the time
And keep a knife in the passenger door

[Chorus]
Sleeping behind the wheel
Pulled over on the freeway
4Runner, stolen plates
Long, long gone
Take off a shift for me
I'm waiting down the street
Take all the time you want to come, come, come
[Verse 2]
Last time we did it
We both thought it hit different
Lyin' down across the front seat
Used to leave you weightless and listless
When the trucks drive by
I feel 'em sway us side to side
I used to keep you up all night
You used to drive when I got tired
[Chorus]
Sleeping behind the wheel
Pulled over on the freeway
4Runner, stolen plates
Long, long gone
Take off a shift for me
I'm waiting down the street
Take all the time you want to come, come, come
[Bridge]
I think we're gettin' close
I think we're gettin' closer
We got this 4Runner
And we been good together
I think we're gettin' close
I think we're gettin' closer
We got this 4Runner
And we been good together
[Chorus]
Sleeping behind the wheel
Pulled over on the freeway
4Runner, stolen plates
Long, long gone
Take off a shift for me
I'm waiting down the street
Take all the time you want to come, come, come
[Chorus]
Sleeping behind the wheel
Pulled over on the freeway
4Runner, stolen plates
Long, long gone
Take off a shift for me
I'm waiting down the street
Take all the time you want to come, come, come
Sleeping behind the wheel
Pulled over on the freeway
4Runner, stolen plates
Long, long gone
Take off a shift for me
FAQ & Knowledge Song “4Runner”
ℚ. What have the artists said about the song?

‘4Runner’ captures the intimate thrill of a road trip with someone special. A 12-string acoustic guitar and booming percussion match the sunshine and breeze of a drive across the West Coast, a queer love story unfolding alongside it. Isolated from the outside by car doors and a blaring stereo, they experience the euphoric aura of the sun and wind from within a world that is theirs alone.

I was in a store in Japan when I heard this song, and to this day I haven’t been able to find it. But I remembered how it sounded in my brain—it had 12-string acoustic guitar and had brush drums, and I just filed that away knowing it was a palette I should try one day. Years later, I was in the studio wanting to realise this idea. I started building it up with 12-string acoustic, drums and Moog Voyager bass. I made a track that felt fresh and then spent a lot of time just driving around and sitting in my room listening to it, piecing it together what it should be about.
